Miyajima Island

Miyajima has long been revered as the "Island of the Gods," with the entire island considered a sacred site. It is home to historic temples and shrines, surrounded by rich, unspoiled natural landscapes. Deer, regarded since ancient times as messengers of the gods, are mentioned in historical records dating back to the Heian period (794–1185).

The Great Torii Gate
The iconic Great Torii of Itsukushima Shrine, the largest wooden torii gate in Japan, appears to float on the sea during high tide, creating a breathtaking scene that changes with the tides and the light.

Itsukushima Shrine (UNESCO World Heritage Site)
With a history of over 1,500 years, Itsukushima Shrine is renowned for its elegant vermilion buildings constructed over the water. At high tide, the shrine seems to float gracefully on the sea, making it one of Japan’s most iconic and picturesque landscapes.

Daishoin Temple
Daishoin Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple on Miyajima, established by the monk Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in 806. Located near the base of Mount Misen, this significant temple complex features beautiful, high-quality wooden halls and numerous unique, charmingly whimsical statues. Visitors can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and stunning, high-up views of the Seto Inland Sea.

Omotesando Shopping Street
Stroll along this lively street filled with local crafts, snacks, restaurants, and souvenirs. Be sure to try Hiroshima specialties like okonomiyaki, grilled oysters, and the famous Momiji Manju—maple-leaf-shaped buns filled with sweet red bean paste.

Miyajima Ropeway
(sky gondola)

For spectacular views of Miyajima, take the Mount Misen Ropeway and enjoy an "air walk" high above the island! This unique aerial system is a two-stage ride that lifts you over the dense forest. You will enjoy magnificent, sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea and the island's UNESCO Primeval Forest, truly making you feel as if you are walking in the sky.

Shishiiwa Observatory
The ropeway ascends directly to the Shishiiwa Station (Observation Deck). This spot offers an incredible 180-degree vista, allowing you to see the majestic Seto Inland Sea dotted with hundreds of scattered islands.

Mount Misen Summit
A further hike from the Shishiiwa station will lead you to the summit of Mount Misen. Here, a breathtaking 360-degree panorama awaits. As you climb, you'll encounter a spiritual landscape: the summit path is home to ancient temple halls founded by Kobo Daishi, along with massive, awe-inspiring rock formations. This blend of profound faith and monumental natural scenery creates a genuine "power spot" rewarding those who make the journey.

Misen Primeval Forest
The Misen Primeval Forest is a protected area where nature remains completely untouched, resulting in a spectacular, rugged landscape. Curious rock formations and historical sites are scattered throughout this beautiful environment. It was designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1996, alongside Itsukushima Shrine.

Hiroshima Okonomiyaki
Hiroshima Okonomiyaki

Enjoy Hiroshima's famous local dish, okonomiyaki—a savory pancake layered with cabbage, meat, and noodles. Skilled chefs prepare it right in front of you on a hot iron grill, and watching it sizzle is half the fun!
